Alumier MD skin care launches at Blush!

If you follow our social media you will have seen a lot of posts recently about a new skincare line we have taken on, Alumier MD is here and it’s going to change your skin, and possible your life! Read on for some more info and the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Why have we taken on Alumier?

Alumier is a medical grade skin care company which means that their products contain the highest levels of active ingredients available on the market.  Active ingredients are things like Retinols, Vitamins and acids, because the active ingredients are purer the molecules are smaller meaning they can be distributed into the lower dermal layers of the skin where more radical change happens. The science behind Alumier is so progressive that they have formulated the purest form of vitamin C that can be applied to the skin and developed a way of micro encapsulating retinol so that it drip feeds into the skin minimising irritation and meaning retinol can be used by all skin types, even sensitive and rosacea. Having Alumier in the salon takes our skin treatments to a much higher level than before and gives us scope to make a massive difference to our clients skin, and life.

Will we still be using and stocking Dermalogica?

Yes, don’t worry we will still be performing Dermalogica treatments for anyone who loves the products and more of a wellness facial, however for anyone looking for significant change in their skin we would direct you towards Alumier.

What exactly is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel involves an acid being applied to the skin to lower the pH, this loosens dead skin cells which stimulates quick exfoliation and new cell regeneration revealing smoother, brighter skin. Acne scarring and breakouts can be decreased along with fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation.  Chemical peels can also thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume and stimulate collagen leading to plumper more youthful skin.

How strong is an Alumier Peel?

Alumier offer superficial to medium depth peels. Superficial peels exfoliate through the epidermis (top layer) and medium depth peels exfoliate through to the papillary dermis (top lower level of the skin) All clients start off with a superficial peel and then, depending on suitability may progress onto a medium strength Peel. A thorough consultation is done prior to any treatment to decide on suitability and the best treatment plan. There is no patch test required for Alumier Peels.

What should I expect during a peel?

Alumier Peels are managed and monitored carefully on the skin. Clients will be asked to rate their sensations on a scale of 1-10, some clients may not feel much whereas others may spike quite high and some frosting may occur, frosting is when the surface of the skin turns white as the exfoliation process starts. The main thing is that you relax and be assured that your therapist is monitoring your skin all the time and knows when to bring the peel process to an end.

What should I expect after a peel?

Everyone will have different experiences after a peel, some may be glowy and radiant right away with no visible peeling others may be drier, more sensitive and have visible flaking it all depends on the skin and tailored treatment plan. If you don’t experience any visible flaking it does not mean that the peel hasn’t worked, everyone’s skin reacts differently and yours may not be as sensitive, may have been better prepared and hydrated beforehand or you may be used to more active ingredients on your skin. Post peel it is important to follow the correct aftercare instructions and use the post procedure kit which will be supplied to you.  Optimum results will be around 7- ten days post peel as the skin regenerates itself.

What acids are used in Alumier Peels?

Our Glow Peel (medium depth peel) contains 7% Lactic Acid, 7% Salicylic Acid and 7% Resorcinol

Radiant 30 (superficial depth peel) contains 30% Lactic Acid

Radiant 20/10 (superficial depth peel) contains 20% Lactic Acid and 10% Salicylic Acid

Lactic Acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid).  AHA’s exfoliate dead skin cells and increase cell turnover by loosening the connections of the skin. They firm and strengthen ageing skin, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Skin will feel smoother and look more radiant after using Lactic Acid.

Salicylic Acid is the only BHA (beta hydroxy acid). Derived from asprin, it is an exfoliant with anti inflammatory properties, it is also oil soluble meaning it can penetrate pores to effectively exfoliate dead cells and target excess sebum build up.

Resorcinol is a peeling agent which works by breaking down rough, scaly or hardened skin as well as disinfecting the skin to help fight any infection.  Resorcinol is used in Jessner skin peels, which are performed by dermatologists. Alumier Glow Peel is half the activity of a full Jessner Peel.

I keep hearing I should be using retinol, but what is it?

Retinol is an antioxidant and a derivative of vitamin A. It stimulates collagen, increases cell turnover and normalises keratinisation (the process of cells moving up into the different layers of the skin) creating smoother and more even toned skin. Retinol also inhibits melanin transfer from melanocytes to skin cells(meaning it stops pigmentation) and enhances the penetration of other pigment blocking products.  Retinol is great for reducing fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Alumiers retinol serums come in three different strengths so are great for everybody from age 20+, for sensitized skin or for people who have never used active ingredients before. Their unique delivery system means that retinol is drip fed into the skin over a period of 6-8 hours causing little to no irritation to the skin so it is fab for anyone who has previously thought they were retinol intolerant.

Matrixyl Synthe 6 is in a lot of the products, what is this?

Matrixyl Synthe 6 is the main peptide used in Alumier products (peptides are little chains that are like the building blocks of the skin) it is derived from a peptide naturally found in collagen, it strengthens skin and improves elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and strengthening the skin.

Is Alumier environmentally friendly?

All Alumier boxes and containers are recyclable.  Their products are not tested on animals and any natural ingredients are taken in the best way possible, for example Sea Whip which is in quite a few products  is a marine organism that grows in the Caribean Sea, when cut Sea Whip renews and grows. Alumier is also Vegan friendly except from three products that do contain honey (acne clarifying cleanser, acne balancing serum, hydra smooth serum) The honey is sourced from organic bees and the bees are left with more than enough honey to sustain them.
